  • Public School Foundation Hosts Novice Teachers Tea

    After a string of extremely hot days, the weather in Chapel Hill cooperated, cooling off in honor of the newest CHCCS teachers to enjoy a patio celebration at the Weathervane Restaurant, for the twelfth annual Public School Foundation (PSF) Novice Teachers’ Tea.This year, the event was co-sponsored by the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Association of Educators (CHCAE).

  • Family Engagement Summit Celebrates Third Year of Success

    The Family Engagement Summit is becoming a fall tradition in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools; for the third year, the halls and classrooms of Culbreth Middle School filled with parents and grandparents, educators, vendors, and even three dogs who serve as Pet Pals.

  • CHCCS Will Host Three Community Meetings

    Engaging with our community is a priority of Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools. To that end, CHCCS is hosting a series of community meetings that will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss the district’s three-year strategic plan, data from Year 1, and suggestions for Year 2.

  • October is National Bullying Prevention Month

    Every child has the right to feel safe and supported. The crucial message is part of a campaign by the National Bullying Prevention Center this month, but the reminder needs to be shared every day, in any setting where children learn and play. CHCCS Student Support Services will be sharing bullying prevention activities and discussions in schools, throughout the month of October.

  • Ephesus Elementary Teacher Named CHCCS EC Educator of Excellence

    When Teresa Kanu completed her undergraduate degree in sociology at North Carolina Central University in 1994, an eventual career as an Exceptional Children educator wasn’t remotely on her radar. Yet after many interesting twists and turns in her professional life, in 2012, Kanu arrived at Ephesus Elementary as an EC teacher. On September 26, Kanu was celebrated as CHCCS 2019 EC Educator of Excellence with a bouquet and unexpected visit from many of the district EC leaders. “I was very, very surprised,” Kanu said.
