• Welcome to the School Counseling Department at East Chapel Hill High School

Secondary school counselors are educators uniquely trained in child and adolescent development, learning strategies, self-management and social skills who understand and promote success for today’s diverse students. They implement a comprehensive school counseling program to support students through this important developmental period. The program provides education, prevention and intervention activities, which are integrated into all aspects of students’ lives. The program teaches knowledge, attitudes and skills students need to acquire in academic, career and social/ emotional development, which serve as the foundation for future success.

Ms. Kelly McKenzie Germino, De-I

Ms. Germino has been with the ECHHS Wildcat Family for 19 years and truly believes she has the best job in the world.  She is awed by the talent, compassion, and hard work of our faculty and students at East.

Ms. Germino was born in Nuremberg, Germany, and raised in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, quaintly dubbed the “River City”. Growing up in a family of educators, she knew at a young age she shared a similar passion for the field.  For her B.A., she attended Meredith College in Raleigh.  At Campbell University in Buies Creek, she received a Masters’ Degree in Counseling Education with both Community/Agency and School endorsements.  One of her proudest professional moments was achieving National Boards a distinction held since 2004.

She is the proud parent to Abby who graduated from East in 2018. Together, they enjoy family vacations on the coast of North Carolina, going to any and all Duke University sporting events, and spending time with extended family and friends.
