CHCCS Exceptional Children

  • The mission of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools is to ensure that all students acquire the knowledge, skills, behaviors, and attitudes to achieve their learning potential. In that spirit, our programs are designed to support students with disabilities as they acquire academic, social, and functional skills. We support the policy of moderate inclusion, so that even students with the most severe disabilities spend time with typically developing peers. We serve students from 3 through 21 years of age.

CHCCS Exceptional Children General Questions

  • For general questions or if you believe your child might be in need of special education and/or related services, you should contact your school administration.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is the law that ensures a free appropriate public education is available for eligible children with disabilities throughout the nation. Additionally, it ensures special education and related services are available for those identified children. Children and youth ages three through 21 receive special education and related services under IDEA.
