CHCCS At-Home Learning Plan

  •  At-Home Learning – Phase 1: When we originally announced our schools would be closed, we sent home these documents: an  Elementary Letter, a PreK Choice Board, and a K-5 Choice Board for elementary students, and a Secondary Letter for students in grades 6-12 (Information is attached below) These documents outline our plan from Monday, March 30 – Friday, April 10 (the original end date was April 3). While students are working on these activities, our teachers will be preparing for Phase 2 with virtual team planning sessions and online professional development. During Phase 1, teachers and other school staff members will also be reaching out with phone calls and emails to check in with your children. Please feel free to contact your child’s teachers with any questions.

At-Home Learning – Phase 2: Beginning Monday, April 13, At-Home Learning will include live video instruction for grades 2-12, office hours and daily lessons for students. We will be sending home additional information at the end of next week, and your child’s teachers will be in touch regarding the specifics of the lessons and assignments. Our technology team is also working very hard to ensure that Chromebooks and internet hotspots are provided for students in grades 2-12 who need them.

Exceptional Children: We are continuing to receive regular updates from the federal and state levels regarding students with disabilities during this time of school closures. It is our goal to maintain compassion and collaboration as families and our school district navigate this national impact. Our EC school teams will be working collaboratively with all school staff (regular education, related services providers and others) to plan for virtual/distance learning opportunities. EC Case Managers will contact students on their caseload, and provide instructional opportunities that are differentiated with modifications/accommodations geared towards each of our student's needs. This effort will be an ongoing endeavor as we continue to adjust and strengthen our virtual/distance learning environment.

At the forefront is our goal to support families to the greatest extent possible given our executive orders as a state. Due to these orders, along with NCDPI guidance, we cannot provide instructional services in school buildings, community environments or at homes for students with disabilities. However, we will take every measure to address the unique needs of every child during the At-Home learning plan. This may look different for each student, but we will work collaboratively, and adapt materials on a case by case basis.

    Other Important Notes:

    • The call center will be up and running again beginning on Monday, March 30. If you have questions about At-Home Learning or any other topic, please don’t hesitate to give us a call at 919-967-8211.
    • The deadline for school transfers and the magnet lotteries for our dual language and STEAM2 programs has been extended from April 15 to May 29.
    • We are working to create a plan for High School Seniors to ensure they graduate this year. This plan will include online course options and additional support for at-risk students.

Our goal is to send out an At-Home Learning update each Thursday that will include any information needed for the following week. We have also launched our At-Home Learning website. Please visit chccs.org/athome to access resources and information geared to support educators, families and students throughout the coming weeks.
